La Casa Alta

Espagnol

Andalucian Activities

El Esparragal borders the Subbetica Natural Park where there are a large variety of walks, which include very strenuous climbs to long slow rambles. The scenery is stunning with many opportunities to see the local birds of prey, including the Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Eagle Owl and Griffon Vulture. It is a truly magnificent sight to see these species soaring over the rugged mountains. Directly behind La Casa Alta is the Sierra Alcaide, where a large family of breeding Griffon Vultures make regular appearances above the mountain top and village.

There are also great opportunities for cycling in the region to suit all capabilities, including the Via Verde, a disused railway line which runs for 58km, through the Subbetica Natural Park. We do offer the facility to hire a bike for the day.

The rugged landscape and surrounding villages provide a great source of subject matter for those with an artistic flair – be it painting or photography.

The Sierra Nevada, which is easily accessible by car from La Casa Alta provides some great skiing for those people wanting a more varied holiday. The ski season lasts from approximately October to March. In case nature does not take its course then there are snow machines at hand so as not to disappoint the intrepid skier!!
