Priego de Córdoba

Priego de Córdoba is 10km away from El Esparragal and offers the opportunity to sample some of the local culture, typical of Andalucia as well as some of the local dishes. The town is built on a hill which is surmounted by the remains of the Moorish Castle which overlooks the surrounding valley.

Often referred to as the hidden jewel of Andalucia, Priego was built on the main textile route from the east, as a result it has some very interesting architectural aspects as well as a wide selection of Baroque churches to visit.

The winding streets in the old quarter, surrounding the Iglesia de la Asunción are bursting with colour all year round with geraniums and succulents; this reaches a climax during the patio season during the summer months.

With a wide selection of bars and restaurants Priego is a town well worth investigating.

Nearby there is the town of Almedinilla, with its recently discovered Roman Villa and museum.

Carcabuey

Carcabuey is 9km from El Esparragal. It is a charming hill top town with a ruined castle overlooking the surrounding area. A quiet town with stunning vistas.

Luque

Luque is approximately 15km away from La Casa Alta and is nestled below a rocky outcrop surmounted by a ruined Moorish castle, which towers above the main square. There are several good restaurants in the town, the best, we think is “La Plancha” which faces the Renaissance church on the main square and they offer a very good menu del dia.

Zuheros

Zuheros is a typical Andalucian white washed mountain village clinging to the side of a steep gorge. On top of a steep outcrop stands the ruins of a Moorish castle, with views towards Baena.

There are several excellent restaurants in this small village, but for a spot of lunch and a refreshing drink we recommend Bar Plaza with a large terrace giving stunning views of the castle and beyond.

There are several other places of interest around Zuheros, which we will be happy to advise you about, on your arrival.

Other places and points of interest are Granada with the Alhambra Palace, Cordóba with the stunning Mezquita, Seville with the Giralda and the historical town of Ronda.
